We help organizations to build workplaces that are safe, visual, productive and easier to improve.

Building a Stronger Foundation for Operational Excellence

Who We Are

At Applied5S, we believe 5S should be more than a clean workplace, painted lines, labelled shelves or a monthly audit.

5S should make the workplace safer, more visual, more productive and easier to manage every day. That belief is at the heart of Applied5S.

Applied5S was developed by Seven Steps as a practical management approach for organizations that want to build a strong foundation for Operational Excellence. Our approach connects 5S with business results such as Productivity, Quality, Cost, Delivery, Morale, Safety and Environment (PQCDMSE) rather than treating 5S as a cosmetic, standalone housekeeping activity.

This is what makes Applied5S different.

We help organizations look beyond “Keeping Things in Order” and start asking better questions:

These questions help organizations move from temporary improvement to a sustainable culture.

That is why Applied5S is designed as an Operating System for Operational Excellence.

What Makes Applied5S Different?

Traditional 5S programs often begin with cleaning and organizing. We believe they should begin with understanding the workplace and identifying what prevents people from doing their work safely, efficiently and consistently.

Our approach helps organizations

Applied5S therefore becomes part of the way an organization operates, not simply another improvement project.

The approach is designed to help organizations build and sustain a safe, visual and productive workplace linked to business results.

With this approach, Applied5S becomes strong foundation for Operational Excellence. It supports Quality, Environment & Safety Management Systems, Sustainability (ESG) initiatives, TPM, lean and TQM

Our Approach to the 5S Methodology

Sort – Seiri

Sort is not simply about throwing away unwanted items.

We ask a more important question:
Why did we accumulate these items in the first place?

By identifying the reason behind accumulation, organizations can address root causes instead of repeatedly cleaning the same problem.

This can help improve inventory control, space utilization and workplace efficiency.

Set in Order – Seiton

Everything that is needed should have a clear and practical place.

Our approach focuses on keeping the required quantity at the point of use (POUS) and reducing unnecessary searching, walking and movement.

A well-arranged workplace should make the right action obvious. That means better visibility, less motion and improved productivity.

It supports initiatives like Quick Changeover (SMED) and Kanban

Shine – Seiso

Shine is not simply about making equipment and workplaces look clean.Cleaning can also become a method of inspection.

When people clean with purpose, they can identify leaks, abnormalities, deterioration, dust accumulation and other early warning signs. The objective is not just cleanliness.

The objective is prevention.

Later this supports initiatives like Autonomous Maintenance. Cleaning with Meaning, Cleaning is Inspection and Don’t Clean, Keep it clean are some of the principles used during implementation.

Standardize – Seiketsu

Once improvements are made, they need to become the normal way of working.

Poor 4th S and 5th S implementation are the key reasons why 5S not sustained in many organizations

Standardization creates a common understanding of what should happen, where things belong and how abnormalities should be identified.

A Standard Manual developed with the help of Our Applied 5S Standard A5S 5001 will help to establish Standards for 1S,2S and 3S.

Visual management plays an important role here because a good standard should be easy to understand and easy to follow.

Sustain – Shitsuke

This is where many 5S initiatives struggle.

Starting 5S is usually easier than sustaining it.

Applied5S focuses on continuous training, audits, ownership and self-discipline so that 5S becomes part of the organization’s culture.

Standardization creates a common understanding of what should happen, where things belong and how abnormalities should be identified.

The goal is simple:

5S should continue even when the consultant is no longer there and it should become organization Culture.

Our Mission

To help organizations build and sustain safe, visual and productive workplaces by harnessing the potential of 5S.

We want 5S to become part of everyday management/ Daily Work Management and bring Stability.

A successful 5S workplace is not one that looks perfect on the day of an audit. It is one where employees naturally identify abnormalities, follow standards, solve problems and continuously improve the way work is done.

A Message from Our Founder

Ramesh P.R.

Over the years, I have worked with organizations that genuinely want to improve. I have seen people work hard in workplaces where materials are difficult to find, problems are not visible, standards are unclear, and the same issues keep coming back. People Struggle during Customer Audits and try to make up things just for Audits

With this approach, Applied5S becomes strong foundation for Operational Excellence. It supports Quality, Environment & Safety Management Systems, Sustainability (ESG) initiatives, TPM, lean and TQM

That changed the way I look at 5S. For me, 5S is not about making a workplace look clean for an audit. It is about making work safer, simpler, more visual and more productive for the people who do it every day.

This is why we created Applied5S. Our aim is to take 5S beyond housekeeping and connect it with real business needs—Productivity, Quality, Cost, Delivery, Morale, Safety and Environment.

We believe the real success of 5S is not how good a workplace looks when the consultant or an Auditor is present. It is what continues to happen after the consultant leaves.

Our role is therefore not to make organizations dependent on us. It is to help people build knowledge, systems and discipline to keep improving on their own.

If you are considering 5S for your organization, don't ask only:

How can we make our workplace look better?

Ask:

How can we make it easier for our people to do the right work, in the right way, every day?

How can we make it easier for our people to do the right work, in the right way, every day?
